«Parole all’orlo» – Robert Creeley

«Parole all’orlo», rubrica di traduzioni a cura di Giovanni Ibello e Mattia Tarantino. Due poesie di Robert Creeley

Diurno
stupore
al solenne scenario
di dormiveglia

sonno profondo
nella pace
eppure, in qualche luogo
ancora la mente fuggirà.

Oppure, la verità,
la mente
questa volta
in trappola:

nessuna voce
nessuna salvezza. La
mano che finalmente
può ghermire.

Perché vivere
in questo
dannato caos?

E perché non –
qualcosa di meno?
scoprire cosa l’altro ci porta.

Una donna, se interrogata,
parla con naturalezza
a meno
che sia depressa.

I bambini, più saggi,
fanno tutto da sé
a meno che non li opprimano.

il come, il come
è stato ieri
sarà anche oggi
sarà domani.

Robert Creeley, The plan, trad. a cura di Giovanni Ibello

Daytime
wonder at
the quieter possibilities
of slumber,

deep sleep,
in peace
some place the mind
will yet escape.

Or else, truth,
the mind
this time at last
trapped:

no voice, no
way left. The
hand at last
can tighten.

Why live
in the middle
of this
damned muddle?

Why not –
lesser thing?
find out
what another will bring.

Woman, addressed,
speaks easily
unless
she is depressed.

Children, wiser,
make their own
things unless
thrown under

the way, the way
it was yesterday, will
be also today
and tomorrow.

Notte

Quando va via la luce
e il cielo è diventato nero,
non c’è niente di niente
da guardare,

la giornata è finita.
Questo è tutto.

***

When the light leaves
and sky’s black,
no nothing
to look at,

day’s done.
That’s it.
